On August 23, the Hawk Fire ignited in the Sierra Nevada foothills northwest of Reno, Nevada. By morning, 32 homes had burned, at least 7 people were injured, and thousands were forced to evacuate. Thunderstorms + high winds pushed the flames from the foothills straight into residential neighborhoods within hours.
