Lawmakers Were Mid-Vote When a Capybara Walked In
The Mato Grosso state legislature in Cuiabá, Brazil has been repeatedly visited by an unlikely guest: an 80-pound capybara.
The chillest rodent on Earth strolls in through the front door, walks the red carpet down the center aisle, and ignores the politicians staring in disbelief.
"They keep interrupting our votes," a staff member said. "We've gotten used to it, but they always make an entrance."
Originally from the wetland next door, the capybaras have gradually been pushed into the city by urban development. They don't fear humans — they seem to own the place.
